Practical, family-centered help with toilet learning, feeding, sleep, emotional regulation, behavior, and early development.
Knowing when to start toilet training, what steps to take, and how to respond when things do not go smoothly can be surprisingly difficult. We provide direct teaching with the child and hands-on coaching for parents so everyone knows what to do and how to keep progress moving at home.
Children and parents can participate in individual or play group toilet learning session at the CTLC. In cases in which learning is not generalized to the home
When bedtime becomes a nightly struggle, the effects are felt by the whole family. We look at routines, regulation, development, and the patterns surrounding sleep, then help families build a plan that is realistic, consistent, and easier to carry out.
Some children have a very limited range of foods, avoid certain textures, or become anxious or upset around meals. When appropriate, we work in conjunction with medical and other healthcare providers to help identify factors contributing to the difficulty, while supporting the child in building greater comfort, flexibility, and success around eating.
Meltdowns, aggression, refusal, or difficulty with transitions are often signs that a child is overwhelmed, frustrated, or missing a skill they need. We help families understand what is happening beneath the behavior and practice strategies that support regulation, communication, and participation in everyday life.
Project ImPACT for Toddlers is a parent-mediated intervention designed to strengthen social communication, play, engagement, and learning during everyday routines. The PACT in ImPACT stands for Parents as Communication Teachers, reflecting the program’s focus on helping parents build these skills into daily interactions with their child. CTLC provides this structured 24-session program for young children with social and communication concerns and is also vendored by the San Diego Regional Center to provide Project ImPACT through California Early Start.
We start by looking carefully at the child, the environment, routines, developmental skills, and family concerns to understand what may be contributing to the difficulty.
Together, we choose realistic goals and strategies that fit the child’s developmental needs and the family’s everyday life. The plan should be something you can actually use, not just recommendations on paper.
We work directly with children and caregivers so families can see strategies in action, try them with support, make adjustments, and feel confident carrying them into daily routines.
You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. We can help you understand what is happening, decide what to try, and practice strategies that make everyday routines easier for your child and family.
